Figleaf internet security reviews4/3/2023 ![]() ![]() Trend Micro led the group with 100% detection, but at a cost of 63 false positives compared to ESET's one. In four rounds from July to October 2020, ESET blocked an average of 99.3% of "real-world" online malware, a mix of widespread and zero-day threats. That wasn't the case with Austrian lab AV-Comparatives (opens in new tab), whose tests make it hard to get a perfect score without racking up lots of false positives. Most of the other paid antivirus products we review also had perfect AV-TEST scores in recent tests. ![]() Both sets of evaluations improved on ESET's scores in some earlier 2020 rounds, in which ESET failed to catch all zero-day malware. It registered no erroneous false positives during the test period.ĮSET did nearly as well in the September-October round of tests, again catching all malware while registering two false positives. Results from the German AV-TEST (opens in new tab) lab in November and December 2020 showed that the ESET scanner detected 100% of both known, widespread malware and brand-new "zero-day" threats. Like I say the score may alter but I'm not sure I'll play it again for that to happen. This **** just doesn't hold up in this day in age and I'm an 80's gamer. Saga frontier just pales against Ara Fell and to be honest I get 20 minutes in to my go and just think, what a load of bollocks, should have just replayed Ara Fell. Not to mention the music in Ara Fell smashing this too. This is the same price as Ara Fell, which is by a tiny company, of around 6 people and Ara Fell just ****s all over this junk. They throw out any old **** and people buy it by the bucket load. If I had noticed that this was Squenix, I wouldn't have bought it. I never like Square Enix games and it is because they are always full of gloomy back drops and crap gameplay, with annoying characters. I turned off and went back to it and then forgot half of the area and had to rebump tens of enemies to get my bearings again. I got bumped so much and mashed A so much, I got bored. Bump enemies, almost no avoiding them, mash A button, within one second you often get bumped again. Pretty average songs but repetitive and sounds like general midi. So far we have I may alter this review because I haven't played for long but the problem lies right there. I may alter this review because I haven't played for long but the problem lies right there. There is tons to discover, and the use of 8 protagonists truly lets the player explore the world through 8 different sets of eyes. Sage Frontier is a game that can really grow with your own understanding of it. As an adult, I find many RPGs trite, uninspired, and too simple in their mechanics. However, once a player understands the flow of the game, there is a deep set of mechanics and world building that really pushed boundaries in video game story telling. Chances are, many people who try this game will be spit right out, as it is full of strange systems and unexplained mechanics. Jungle predators4/3/2023 ![]() Roaring in triumph at his new kill, and bathed in the grizzly bear's blood, he noticed Naru fleeing, intriguing him, and he decided to follow her. Seeing the animal as a worthy challenge, he battled with it with his bare hands, eventually delivering a death blow that broke the bear's neck and holding the beast above his head. Subsequently, he would come to witness Naru herself being attacked by a Grizzly bear. Stumbling upon skinned buffalos, the Feral Predator noted the presence of a burnt cigar and flowers Naru left behind for them, lingering there a bit before moving on. Upon hearing the barks of Naru's dog Sarii, he departed once again. Settling into a nearby cave, he removed the flesh and fur from the canine's skull using his disintegrator gas, hanging his new trophy across his body. Interrupting the creature, he killed the wolf and severed its head, claiming it as a trophy. Later, the Predator observed a wolf hunting a rabbit in an open field. The Feral Predator holding up the corpse of a Grizzly Bear. Naru was the first to grow suspect of the hunter's activity in the area, noticing the remains of the flayed rattlesnake and the creature's unusually large footprints. Though cloaked, the sight of his hidden ship which passed through the region's stormy clouds was witnessed by Comanche woman Naru, who assumed it to be a thunderbird.įrom there, the Predator began his search for worthy prey to hunt, claiming his first trophy by killing and skinning a rattlesnake. The Feral Predator arrived on Earth during the early 18th century, landing in North America in the middle of Comanche territory. " A long time ago, it is said, a monster came here." ― Naru (from Prey) He also killed a bisected Raphael Adolini after merely startling him, as well as resorted to the use of his Bolt Gun after being overwhelmed by Naru in their final confrontation, despite appropriately handicapping himself for much of their duel. However, this sense of familial sporting behavior had its limits, and the Predator would employ his cloak in combat whenever necessary he notably engaged with the wolf and grizzly bear fully-cloaked, and when he fought Taabe, who was wounding him frequently, the Feral Predator eventually cloaked itself and subsequently stabbed Taabe in the back. Though it is unknown if the Feral Predator shared the same code of honor as his more well known cousins, he at least bore some traits reminiscent of an honorable Yautja, taking little interest in prey he deemed inadequate for his collection - he notably ignored Naru for much of his hunt, until she eventually posed a threat to him. ![]() The Feral Predator possessed a curiosity towards the dynamic between local fauna within the Great Plains, and, upon encountering several of its inhabitants, he slowly built up his repertoire of trophies, working his way to larger and deadlier prey, from snakes and wolves, to bears and humans. He was also extremely durable, and showcased a massive pain tolerance, able to shrug off most injuries, including being impaled through the chest, being shot in the back of the head and even losing his right arm. That is not to say he wasn't adept in armed combat, however, and he employed the use of several unique armaments that he used to dispatch of numerous victims. He notably wrestled with and killed a bear with his bare hands. Indeed, the Predator seemed to specifically enjoy close-combat over stealth, and actively engaged in up-close skirmishes frequently. Owing to his name, the Feral Predator displayed large degrees of savage behaviour. įull body view of the Feral Predator, with his Wrist Shield.Īnother, more minor difference between the Feral Predator and others is his very blood - while still green in color, it appears as a much darker shade of green, and is noticeably less luminous than other Predators' blood.įeral Predator culture supposedly held a reverence toward bones, not only for the fashioning of their armor and equipment, but also being key to the subspecies' diet as well. This was due to the creature's unique background - presumably hailing from a different, even hotter hemisphere of the Predator homeworld, essentially being a 'Desert Predator'. ![]() The Feral Predator was a unique specimen amongst typical Predators, not only possessing a visually distinctive appearance, but also sporting weapons and gadgetry that were far more primitive compared to other examples seen in Yautja culture (though still far superior to that of Humans). Define skyrocket4/2/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() WEBER: President Biden has called out that the prices for unfinished gasoline were down by 5%, where the prices at the gas station went up by 3%. The president said he would have the Federal Trade Commission investigate possible market manipulation or price gouging in the energy sector. MARTIN: So the Biden administration in November took aim at energy costs. In the earnings reports, companies have bragged about how they have managed to be ahead of the inflation curve, how they have managed to jack up prices more than their costs and as a result have delivered these record profits. And as a matter of fact, what we have seen is that profits are skyrocketing, which means that companies have increased prices by more than cost. And everybody has some sort of an understanding that, oh, yeah, there are issues, so, yes, of course companies are increasing prices in ways in which they could not justify in normal times.īut this does not mean that the actual amount of price increase is justified by the increase in costs. No one knows how much exactly these prices should be increased. So we can explain to our customers that we are raising our prices. And this creates an opening where they can say, well, we are facing increasing costs. WEBER: Companies always want to maximize profits, right? In the current context, they suddenly cannot deliver as much anymore as they used to. But I guess the question would be, what is the line between kind of normal market functioning and market manipulation? Is there a lot, and who decides what that line is? You know, if people want to buy things and they're in short supply, of course they will be more expensive. And suddenly, companies, even very large companies, have difficulties delivering. But what's happening now is that suddenly, because this gigantic conveyor belt system, if you want so, is not working properly, stuff gets stuck. So if demand goes up, they basically react by delivering more of the stuff that they are producing. I mean, first of all, we have to realize that the supply chain issues are very real, right? So in normal times, companies, also very large companies, mainly compete over being able to deliver their products quickly, attracting customers through advertisement and so on. So what's your take on why those two things are happening at the same time? And at the same time, corporations are reporting record profits, and that just seems counterintuitive to many people. MARTIN: So we see the price of pretty much everything going up, and we are told that these are supply chain disruptions or labor shortages, both of which are pandemic-related. ![]() ISABELLA WEBER: Thank you so much for having me, Michel. She has studied pricing policies in the context of rapid economic transitions, and she is with us now to talk about all this. She is a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Commerce Department shows that corporate profit margins are the largest they've been in 70 years, and that's caused progressive leaders like Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to cry foul, saying some companies are using the pandemic as a cover to raise prices far more than is warranted.Īs is often the case where economic theory is concerned, there are a variety of opinions about this, so we've called Isabella Weber. While families are dealing with sticker shock, profits for companies that put these goods on shelves - well, those are skyrocketing. The consumer price index showed a 4% rise in housing, a 12% increase in the price of meat, and the cost to buy a used car is up more than 40%.īut here's another reality. This week, the federal government reported a 7.5% increase in the cost of goods all across the board compared to a year ago. Prices are up all over the place - at the gas pump, at the grocery store, at the car lot. ![]()

Cubism examples4/2/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() These planes appear to ascend the surface of the canvas rather than to recede in depth. The monochromatic colour scheme was suited to the presentation of complex, multiple views of the object, which was now reduced to overlapping opaque and transparent planes. Colour schemes were simplified, tending to be nearly monochromatic (hues of tan, brown, gray, cream, green, or blue preferred) in order not to distract the viewer from the artist's primary interest-the structure of form itself. Right-angle and straight-line construction were favoured, though occasionally some areas of the painting appeared sculptural, as in Picasso's "Girl with a Mandolin" (1910). Paintings executed during this period showed the breaking down, or analysis, of form. The period from 1910 to 1912 is referred to as Analytical Cubism. As in Cézanne's art, perspective was rendered by means of colour, the warm reddish browns advancing and the cool blues receding. It was "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon", a work painted by Picasso in 1907, that forecast the new style in this work, the forms of five female nudes became fractured, angular shapes. In Braque's work, the volumes of the houses, the cylindrical forms of the trees, and the tan-and-green colour scheme are reminiscent of Paul Cézanne's landscapes, which deeply inspired the Cubists in their first stage of development, until 1909. Typical cubist paintings frequently show letters, musical instruments, bottles, pitchers, glasses, newspapers, still lifes, and the human face and figure.Ĭubism derived its name from remarks that were made by the painter Henri Matisse and the critic Louis Vauxcelles, who derisively described Braque's 1908 work "Houses at L'Estaque" as composed of cubes. Cubist painters were not bound to copying form, texture, colour, and space instead, they presented a new reality in paintings that depicted radically fragmented objects, whose several sides were seen simultaneously. The Cubist style emphasized the flat, two-dimensional surface of the picture plane, rejecting the traditional techniques of perspective, foreshortening, modeling, and chiaroscuro and refuting time-honoured theories of art as the imitation of nature. Until then, we should all do ourselves a favor and seek out works in Cubism to really take time to unearth the feelings and ideas that are encoded within them. This Website is Best Viewed Using FirefoxĬubism was a highly influential visual arts style of the 20th century that was created principally by the painters Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in Paris between 19. In Part 2 of this series, we will offer a more in-depth look at Alain’s work and what motivates him to delve into a medium under-represented in today’s art. These encounters influenced their research on Cubism.”Īlain describes his work as “Neo-Cubism.” His contemporary take on this seminal art form is vibrant and engaging, even while dissecting and reconstructing quotidian activities. They met with great intellectuals, writers, thinkers and philosophers. The creators of Cubism, Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso and the other masters of Cubism, lived in a period that was rich in encounters. Says Beraud, “In the history of art, Cubism has always been a particular artistic current. With the arrival of the huge advertising boom of the 1920s and 1930s, the designs seen in magazine advertisements and theatre posters also reflected the influence of the forms of Cubism.Įmillions artist Alain Beraud, a renowned French painter who works almost exclusively in Cubism, describes the genesis of this style as an extension of experiential explorations. Other examples of related themes in Cubism can be found in the deconstructionist mentality of art deco designers and artists such as Juan Gris as seen in his painting Guitar and Newspaper (1925).Ĭubism’s geometric shapes and forms were adopted and utilized by designers of everything from functional housewares and appliances to home decor and jewelry. There are a handful of surviving experiments in Cubist architecture-mostly in the Czech Republic. It is certainly a surprising realization that such an abstract form can be so viscerally felt all around us in modern art and design.Ĭubism is echoed in the literary works of Gertrude Stein and William Faulkner by employing repetition and repetitive phrases as building blocks in passages and even entire chapters. ![]() A short study of the origins of the technique will soon lead the curious appreciator down avenues as disparate as Futurism, Constructivism and Art Deco. ![]() Indeed, in the same way artworks in Cubism posit a retelling of our understanding of the natural order of things, Cubism itself lives outside of the normal progression of time. ![]()
